Frequently Asked Questions

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is technically a marathon software product development event. At #firsthack, it is more of a guided, unique, experience to help you understand Computer Science concepts, tools, see cool tech demos, and hear from industry innovators.

I've never been to a hackathon and I'm nervous.

No need to be. No previous experience is necessary. Above all we guarantee this to be a fun learning experience! Our goal is for you to leave #firsthack having learned something, play with cool gadgets, meet smart techies and last but not least take home some cool swag, swag, and swag.

What if I need to cancel my registration at late notice?

In the event that you need to cancel, please contact us at admin@learningpathwaysproject.org as soon as possible. We may then be able to accomodate other students from the waiting list. Please look at your schedule carefully to ensure you do not have conflicts.

Is there ample parking at the #firsthack venue?

Short Answer Yes
There is a parking garage in the premises that can provide additional parking if need arises. We choose locations that will have easy parking at the location or nearby. We invite young students and parents to attend the key note address at 9 am and the award ceremony at 4 PM

Which grades do you accept?

We accept all students in the sixth through eighth grade. Exceptions to this rule will be made on a case by case basis. Please contact us at admin@learningpathwaysproject.org if this is the case. Last year we invited young students and parents to attend the key note address and the award ceremony.

Can homeschooled students register?

Yes. As long as the homeschooled student is in sixth through eighth grade, they are eligible to participate in this year's #firsthack. We welcome them to attend and have a truck load of fun with peers in the community.

Will this cost me money?

To help make this event an awesome learning experience, we require a small fee with the registration. If you are unable to pay, please email admin@learningpathwaysproject.org.

Do parents have to stay for the entire program?

No! Parents must accompany their kids to registration but are not required to stay for the entire event. Regardless, all parents must sign the waiver for the event, located here: #firsthack Participation Waiver
